Something really, really, ridiculously, incredibly, freakishly, almost unbelievably amazing. And something like that happened last night. (Or rather, it's going to happen in a few months...)
Here's how it went. I was just about to get in the shower, when my sister came along and told me something she had just read on the computer. Immediately, I pulled all my clothes back on, raced out to the other end of the house, catapulted myself into the computer chair, and investigated the matter. I read the subject line and my breath caught in my throat. (It really does do that sometimes, you know. It's not just in the books.) I clicked on the email, hardly daring to hope. Then I read the words -- the words I've been longing to hear for years. And that's when it hit me. That's when I knew it was really, truly, honest-to-goodness true. It's happening.
FRIENDS, NAOMI AND I ARE GOING TO MEET AT LAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is, seriously, almost too wonderful to be true -- BUT IT IS. It was made official yesterday, and though we've blown up the chatbox squealing to each other about it, neither one of us has fully registered the reality yet. (At least, I haven't. Have you, Naomi?) We've been dreaming about this for almost three years. It wasn't until about two weeks ago, however, that it actually Became A Thing, and we started considering it seriously: could this actually happen? Can we make it work? How much are we willing to work to make this dream of ours come true?
I'm still amazed that it only took two weeks to put everything together. BECAUSE NOW IT'S ALL SET. The trip is booked, and Naomi is coming to America in June!!!!!!
*freaks out all over again*
I'm serious, this is about the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me. (So far. The MOST exciting thing will be meeting Naomi at the airport and hugging each other for the first time -- we're both fairly certain we'll be crying, given our reputations of teariness.) I told my mama this morning, "I'm so excited I don't even know how to feel!" I really don't. I don't know whether to jump up and down or run around in circles or sing at the top of my voice or try to calm myself down. So far I've jumped and sang. The calming doesn't seem to work. I'll try the running around once I'm done typing out this frenzied post. ;-)
JUST THINK ABOUT IT, PEOPLE. Four years ago, I could have never imagined anything so wonderful. I didn't even have a best friend. I remember reading Amy and Melody's blog posts about their epic long-distance friendship, and being ever so happy for them when they first met in real life back a few years ago....I remember how fiercely I dreamed that would be me someday. Well, now, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. I've had a lot of dreams in my day, and they don't always come true -- but THIS ONE WILL. IT IS GOING TO.
:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
Naomi had the idea that we should make the Blogging Community guess who's going to visit who, and when we're going to visit, but I wanted to just let it all out, so we vetoed that idea. ;-P Naomi is coming here -- HERE TO MY HOUSE ER MA GAAASH -- in June, and she's going to stay three weeks (THREE WEEKS JUST THINK OF ALL THE AMAZING MISCHIEF WE CAN COME UP WITH IN THAT TIME).
I have to thank my parents, for going along with and being enthusiastic about this dream of ours, inviting a person they've never met into our house for three whole weeks (she's really not that bad, Mama and Daddy.) I have to thank Naomi's parents, for being so willing to make this happen, and for all the money that is surely going to go into this -- it'll be completely worth it, I PROMISE. :-) And we have to thank the Lord -- because HE'S the one who caused us to run into each other in the first place. He's the one who planted to seed of friendship and made it bloom into a huge, colorful flower. He's the one who makes us dream big, and He's the one who's making it possible.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
Of course, we have oodles and oodles of fun things planned that we're going to do together (which will include visiting every library in the county, going to a contra-dance, watching Downton Abbey and picking strawberries), and we'll probably only come up with more. ;-) But we thought it would be cool if you all told us one thing we should do while we're together. (Be creative, but please don't ask us to do something stupid or potentially dangerous. We'll be doing far too many of those things as it is.)
I'm literally so excited right now, I don't know what else to say, so I'll leave you with this, which is basically all that's been running through my mind all morning:
NAOMI IS COMING NAOMI IS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
