Things That Happen In a Week

I had a birthday. I turned seventeen (yikes!) which included a trip to four libraries with three very special people, lunch in an Amish buggy, watching NEWSIES with friends, getting lost on a muddy country road, and turning left where I wasn't supposed to. (But I'm still alive.)

at said friends' house -- the hat is borrowed. (We were watching Newsies, after all.)

I got a whole stack of Deliciously Awesome books and have proceeded to devour them.

I took pictures of my cat with books.

The snow melted and my thoughts inevitably turned toward SPRING.

I finished three chapters of my novel (!!!!!!!!!) Aided, of course, by my bunnies.

I found the sheet music for the theme song from Simon Birch for free download, which made me ridiculously happy.

My sister Sadie and I moved our desks around, and I did some terrible things to the walls of our school room. Um, I mean, I decorated.

I fixed the wreath on our front door (yay for the glue gun!) and made my mama happy :-)

I read this post and absolutely LOVED it and decided y'all need to read it too. (Like, immediately.)

I was introduced to Young Living Essential Oils and resolved to live a healthier, brighter life (I know, I can very spur-of-the-moment-let's-make-life-changing-decisions-right-now sometimes, but this one's gonna last, trust me) ;-)

I took lots of walks. Wearing my yellow boots, of course.

Oliver decided it was time to conquer the world, and apparently thought my bed was a good place to start.

I got sick of country music. :-P (IT FINALLY HAPPENED.)

.....Buuuuut I still love Josh Turner. I was promised a Josh Turner t-shirt for my birthday, in fact, but I have yet to see anything of it. *taps fingers impatiently*

(That is not to say I don't like country music anymore. I do. I've just been listening to it too much and I'm really, really sick of it at the moment.)

I thanked God for all the little blessings. :-) And wanted to share them with you!

  1. I'm so happy you had a great birthday, Emma! It sounds wonderful, and I love your T-shirt in the first picture. You'll love being seventeen :-) (Trust me. You will. ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS. *dying hyena laugh in the distance*)

Okay, that was weird. Sorry. ;-)

  2. 1. I love the Newsies cap.
    2. LOOK. LOOK. IT'S MY CARD. (And Oliver.)
    3. And LOOK. IT'S MY BOOKMARK!!!! (And Oliver. Goodness that cat it everywhere.)
    4. And I did some terrible things to the walls of our school room. HAHA. It looks nice. I like the braid picture. VERY Pinterest.
    5. THAT POST. I LOVED IT. (Melissa Tagg's one.)
    6. Eww, a cat on your CUSHION?!!! (I'm not visiting you. This is over. Our friendship is over.) :-P (Not really. AS IF YOU DON'T KNOW THAT.) (Although we'll REALLY have to do something about Oliver climbing over my bed and my stuff. No really. Because I don't like that at all. :-D)
    7. I got tired of country music quite a while ago now. :-P BUT I STILL LIKE IT. :-)
    8. I really loved this post, Ponine, I really loved it. :-)

    1. 1. Thanks. Like I said, it's not mine; I borrowed it from my friend because I forgot to wear mine.
      2. YES.
      3. Oh, that thing has been getting a lot of use lately. ;-P
      4. Sadie, Mary and I did the braid picture last spring at Easter time. There was a video taken of it, which was hilarious, but I don't have it (otherwise I'd have sent it to you).
      5. ISN'T THAT GREAT?
      6. I thought you might cringe at that. ;-P You may find this hard to believe, but Oliver sleeps on my pillow literally ALLLL the time. It's a normal thing. (But don't worry, if -- WHEN -- you come over, I will give him a strict talking-to NOT to touch your things.)
      7. It was so weird! We were listening to Sara Evans in the car and suddenly I'm like, "Yuck, why am I listening to this? I am SO sick of this." I'm trying to give myself a break. ;-P (But like I said, I still love Josh Turner.)
      8. Awww, thanks. I'm glad. :-)

I've brought you a tag if you would like one! It's the book shelf tag--one I am attempting to get to catch on...anyway, if you'd like it the details are on my site: loveroflembas.blogspot.com

  4. Sounds like you had a good birthday! I'm so glad :D (And I really like the shirt you're wearing--wow, that sounded creepy.)

Ooh, ooh, have you gotten to Since You've Been Gone yet? When I saw you and everyone else adding it to their TBR lists on Goodreads, I checked out the summary, and it looks really good! Is it?

Isn't it soooo exciting when you find sheet music for free download?! That happened for me with "Once Upon a December" from Anastasia, and IT MADE ME SO HAPPY.

    I like your decorating job!

Haha, Oliver xD That last picture of him is awesome!

    1. Yes, I did! (Now I'm seventeen, which supposedly means I should think about starting to act grown up, only I'm not sure how to go about it....) Haha, thanks. I get a lot of compliments on that shirt. ;-P

I haven't read it yet, but I'm looking forward to it! I was SO HAPPY when I found it at the library. (And then I found The Hired Girl and thought, WELL THIS IS MY LUCKY DAY.)

YES! That really is the most exciting thing ever. Oh, thank you! You should see the wall by my desk. It's absolutely plastered in magazine pictures and old photographs. (It's scary.)

Thank you, I think so too. Oliver just plain IS awesome. ;-)

  5. Such a sweet post, my dear! And oh my...happy birthday to you! Seventeen...time goes by so quickly, doesn't it? I enjoyed all your pictures of your doings...you do have such a delightful way of drawing a reader into your post!
Have a blessed week and ooh...enjoy all your reading!
And before I forget...I am having a little ''love'' giveaway and would be thrilled if I could pop your name in the hat too, Emma!
    Hugs and love!

Oooh, I'd love to be included! I'll go over right away and have a look. Thanks so much for mentioning it!

  6. Happy Birthday!

I like your shirt in the second picture. That was me when Eponine died.

Ooh, I see you got "The Hired Girl". Have you got a chance to read it, and if so did you like it? I've been thinking about reading it for a while.

OH I KNOW RIGHT?!?! That shirt is great for expressing those feelings. :-P I usually wear it right after one of my favorite characters has really died, but this time I just wore it because I wanted to.

Yes! I haven't started it yet, but I'm really excited to because I've been looking for it for a long time. I was thrilled when I found it at the library. :-)

  7. AAAHHHH. Yay yay yay and yay. I was hoping you'd post about your birthday. :D
Prepare for a long, rambling comment. (Well, whenever you see a comment from me, you normally expect that, I bet, haha. :P)
Okay, lemme start at the top...I love your blue camera, by the way. :D I've always wanted a BLUE camera. I don't have one at all, but two of my siblings have one (my eldest brother even has 2!) so I tend to be able to get away with it. ;) Only they're not BLUE ones. Hehe.
Oh, you watched NEWSIES!!! (I watched it too, last week. :D) AND YOUR HAT! AND YOUR SHIRT! Wow! I Really Really Like them. Why don't WE have such awesome shirts in Australia?!! :(
Oh, and I totally counted all your candles to see if you had 17. ;D
Dear me, I'm afraid I don't recognize ANY of those titles....is that bad? :P
Aww, Naomi's card is so pretty! (I Flop at making cards. Flop with a capital F.)
Spring! *sigh* I wish we were going into spring. :P We're about as far away from it as you can get...but oh well, I'm sure autumn can be nice. At least it'll be a bit cooler. (It was 102 degrees Fahrenheit last week. Ugh...)
Aww, your bunny is ADORABLE. (And we also have 3 other pets added to our collection in the last few weeks, haha. When will we stop...) And 3 chapters is a pretty big achievement!! I find it rather funny that you were wearing a T-shirt in one picture, and long, woolly sleeves in another. :)
Free download music is SO brighten-your-day kind of material! ;)
Oh my, your decoration is so cool! I love the buttons and the stretchy stuff across it (I guess that means you can slip things out without having to glue/sticky tape them on, which would be Very Helpful)!
You have a wreath on your house. AND YOU HAVE ONE OF THOSE AWESOME LANTERN THINGS ON YOUR HOUSE?!!?!!! WHAT?! I REALLY want to come to your place now. :P (I took some photos of my house and was going to email them to you, but now I'm rethinking it.... our house is so Ugly and Boring compared to yours! :P)
Young Living Essential Oils....*chuckles* Sorry, but I can't see myself using them. ;)
Aww, that picture of Oliver on your bed!! I wish I had a cute cat to snuggle up on my bed with! Your quilt is really pretty, by the way. :)
Haha, you got sick of country music. ;) I know how THAT feels. Although unfortunately, I'm afraid my other family members DON'T know how it feels...*sigh* I still like Carrie Underwood, though. :D
    Loved this post, Emma! :)

    1. THANK YOU FOR THE LONG RAMBLING COMMENT. Yes, I always expect long rambling comments from you -- so they'd BETTER be. ;-P

Haha, I'm glad you like my camera....it's really a very cheap one Sadie and I bought several years ago, but it has served me well. ;-)

YES! We were planning the movie night for a while, but it had to be rescheduled, and it happened to be rescheduled on my birthday! It was fun. :-) Thank you! Actually we don't have cool shirts like that around here -- at least, not many. I saw that one online and liked it so much I ordered it. (The company is LookHuman.org, if you want to get one for yourself!)

That's really funny you should mention that about the candles. Like I said, we were at a friends' house, so I brought the candles from home. But I hadn't really counted them closely, and turns out I only brought twelve; and then for some reason I thought there were sixteen, so I asked if I could borrow one more candle, and then someone said, confused, "Are you turning thirteen?" And it was only THEN that I realized how mixed up I was. (It was kind of embarrassing. I was very tired by that time in the day, you see.)

That's okay -- most of them I'd never heard of, and just picked out at random because they looked good. So far I've read the two Richard Peck ones, and he is SO DEFINITELY one of my Very Favorite Authors. They were both SO good.

102 degrees!!!!! WOW. (It never gets THAT hot here. Well, hardly ever.)

Yeah, we've been having yo-yo weather lately -- cold and snowy one day, warm and balmy the next. It's messing with my psychological state. ;-P (Gotta love New York springs.)

Calm down, our house isn't THAT cool. ;-) Really, it's not. I mean, I love it because it's home. I'd still love to see pictures of where you live!

You know, a week ago I wouldn't have thought I'd be using essential oils either, but I got really inspired to start living healthier. I'm sick of getting sick. :-P

I still like some country music; I'm just sick of listening to it ALL the time. (Which I have been doing for about six months, haha.)

Thank you so much, Miss Meg! :-)

  8. Happy Birthday, Emma!! I'm seventeen, too, at the moment :P I won't be eighteen 'till this summer! So right now, you, Naomi, and I, are all the same age!

Oh gosh, that T-shirt!! I'd love to have one :P You finished three chapters of your novel?! Good for you!

I love your picture decorations! So fun :) And all those BOOKS! It sounds like you had a wonderful day!!

    1. Oh, cool! I didn't know that.

  10. You've had such a productive week!!! You seriously sounded like you had an amazing birthday. Like 4 libraries in ONE day?! You sound like me..lol, we got to 2 different ones basically every week. ;) I have never seen NEWSIES!! I really want to though. Our library owns it..so it looks like I'm going to persuade my sisters to a movie night with some cinnamon sugar buttered popcorn. hehe!

though, what is 17 like? Be brutally honest. ;)

    1. Ha, well, I hope so. ;-P Yes, I did! Oh boy, YES, watch Newsies. It's adorable and fun and classic. (Cinnamon sugar buttered popcorn?! That sounds AMAZING.)

      Well...to be honest, it's a lot like sixteen. I haven't changed yet. ;-)

  11. Emma!
The happiest of birthday wishes to you! I almost shrieked when I saw your first photo, because I have the exact same camera!!! Isn't that a hilarious coincidence? :)

Your "Don't talk to me" shirt. It's true! I've literally started crying at the most awkward moments because I started thinking about that very happening. Besides getting into extremely ridiculous disagreements with siblings because I'm an emotional wreck. :)

I loved how kitty heavy this post was. :) Yours look so squishy and cuddly. Most of our cats are porch i.e. outside cats, but Arwen (my younger sister) and I are trying to decide whether we want to have our two newest kitties in our bedroom.

Free downloaded music - the BEST!

    1. Thank you, Eowyn! I'm so happy you commented. :-) Really! I think you're the second person who's told me they have the same camera. It must be popular or something.

Yes, the struggle is real. I've done that too. (And then people ask me, "What's wrong with you?" Just let me have my moment!

Oliver is very squishy and cuddly. He's also very photogenic. He gets so many pictures taken of him, it's really unreasonable.

  12. Happy Late Birthday, Emma!!!!
I'm so glad you had an enjoyable day. Lunch in an Amish buggy? How fun! Do you personally know any Amish people? And Newsies!! Perfect. ;)

Oh my goodness. Josh Turner!!! I just discovered him recently and pretty much fell in love. I haven't heard many of his songs (yet) but the one that send me head over heels was "Would You Go With Me?" Have you heard it?

I love all the photos on your bulletin board!

Chasing Jupiter is SUCH a good book. What were your thoughts on it?

Thanks for sharing your day with us!! Happy 17th! :D

    1. Thank you, Natalie!!!

Haha, well, I probably should have explained that more. ;-P It was a restaurant I've been to before once, and they have one table that's actually inside an Amish buggy. So I didn't have lunch in a buggy that belonged to someone. But yes, we do have some Amish friends! There are several big communities in our area, so we see a lot of buggies. ;-)

Ohhhh, Josh Turner!!! *flops* He's...yeah, what you said. ;-P I LOVE 'Would You Go With Me'. My favorite is probably 'Long Black Train'.

It is! I just finished it last night. I'm planning on writing a review soon, so you can look out for that. (For now, let's just say I was very impressed.)

You're welcome! Thanks for your comment. :-)

    2. Ahh, I see! I've actually been to a restaurant before that had a table like that (we didn't get to sit in it, though) so I know exactly what you mean. :)
Oh, how cool that you have Amish friends! We don't live in an Amish area, but we drove through one a couple times and it's so fun seeing the buggies and the farmhouses!

I've heard that song, too!! It's very good. I like watching the music video because...you know. He's in it. :P hahaha

Yay! I saw you reviewed it on goodreads, so I'm going to read it asap!

"Oliver decided it was time to conquer the world, and apparently thought my bed was a good place to start." Haha! That was great. I like that. :)

Oh my! That's what I've been missing all this time! BUNNIES!! No wonder I haven't been able to get anywhere when it comes to writing novels! :D Why didn't anyone tell me???

  14. It looks as if you had a marvelous week!

I love you pictures of your cat. Lol! I guess if you want to conquer the world, it's better to start on someone else's bed and get a good nap before doing anything.

The essential oils sounds interesting. What are Essential Oils, or what are they suppose to do?

I know what you mean when you said you feel sick of country music. I love country music, but I just don't like to listen to it all the time.

    1. Right? I think that was Oliver's mentality on the subject. (He still hasn't gotten any farther than my bed, btw.)

Um, what are essential oils...well, they're just -- oils, I guess, extracted from different things, and they have healing properties. They say they're very effective.

Yeah, I'm thinking I should cut down on the country music from now on (in other words, not listen to it 24/7) because I really DO love it. :-)
